Wake up and pay attention. - Brent Green

Finally, it seems like more people are paying attention to Brent Green and his dark, quirky, nostalgia-invoking films.

This guy has been on my radar since his 2008 Sundance Film Festival performance with Califone. His 2010 feature-length release - Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then - has yet to make it to my eye stream, but it will be sure to not disappoint. The man built five houses in his Pennsylvania backyard for the set!

This short of Green's Carlin, gets me everytime. That whimpering voice, those scotch-taped corners, the lightbulb removal in stop-motion. Visual deliciousness.

This evening was filled with beautifully loud, yet mellow serenades from Scout Niblett at Portland's Mississippi Studios. I made it into the bar, but nearly missed out on the show thanks to a great friend who popped into town to say goodbye on her way out of the NW. Thank goodness I slipped in to see Scout play because she performed one of my all time favorites- Do You Want to be Buried with My People Dear? This song alone is worth the 12 bucks. Oh good god, so many heart crushing lyrics.

I love this video of her live performance. Eyes shut the entire time. Singing all the parts to what is usually a duet with Will Oldham. Not to mention she is a pretty badass lady who can really scream her lungs out when not rambling romances.

Cellos + Thao Yumminess

I love the simplicity of this video. And cellos make this best noise I have ever heard so Thao's collaboration with them is even better. I keep saying that one of these days I will teach myself to play the cello. I think the time to start is now.
