Oh Cheer, New Year!

I'm no die-hard when it comes to setting resolutions and goals, but this New Year I dedicate to:

Polka Dots inspired by Yayoi Kusama

The artist herself in some fine polkawear

Polka dot house featured in a 1951 Life Magazine
(oh to live here!)

Jillian Dress by the always spectacular Kate Spade

AND

Vintage Hairstylin' galore

modern-vintage low bun, yum.

Marion Cotillard in a 2010 Vogue

To 2011, and everything there after.

Summer Fog in the Andes

On rainy days like today, I pine for summer bus rides through South American cloud forests.
Drinking soda from bags and chowing down on pan de yuca.
Listening to tunes of the like:

I've found myself attached to this railroad track, but I'll come back to you someday.

Word Ways

Hello long-lost friend. Holiday trips home, gift makings, and a overly utilized library card have been keeping this tucked neatly and quietly in cyberland for months. Now reposting begins and it only seems appropriate to share what I have lately been devouring courtesy of oversized art book selection at the Portland Library. Text as or in art has some unexplainable ability to make my heart melt.

όνειρα σπίτι | House Dreams

Oh my beauty.
There is no way I could ever actually maintain a house that looked this pristine, but a girl can dream right?
The high window in the kitchen makes my heart melt. As does the painted clay exterior.
This house is on the greek island of Tinos.

Hands Dance!

I apologize for the video overload lately, but this is too radical not to share!

Scout Niblett | Love songs

| Do you want to be buried with my people dear?" was the look in your eyes.

We can rest our bones side by side in the dirt up yonder high.

Cannot believe it was you I sensed and sung to all my life.

Arms that held me never worked before until I was held by you.

I have a suspicion you just could be my missing part.

It's so fun to see me being me along side you. |

This evening was filled with beautifully loud, yet mellow serenades from Scout Niblett at Portland's Mississippi Studios. I made it into the bar, but nearly missed out on the show thanks to a great friend who popped into town to say goodbye on her way out of the NW. Thank goodness I slipped in to see Scout play because she performed one of my all time favorites- Do You Want to be Buried with My People Dear? This song alone is worth the 12 bucks. Oh good god, so many heart crushing lyrics.

I love this video of her live performance. Eyes shut the entire time. Singing all the parts to what is usually a duet with Will Oldham. Not to mention she is a pretty badass lady who can really scream her lungs out when not rambling romances.

Flour dance | Vanessa Bruno

Love love love Vanessa Bruno's campaign videos.
The soundless screaming.
Lou Doillon's bluesy, air-guitar-playing interlude.
Flour stomps, reverses, and ruining extremely expensive clothing.
Yes.

Etsy Favorite | Yokoo

This little lady you may be familiar with after her appearance in the NYT last year. With my 23rd coming up, I have decided to cave and buy myself her Brobdingnagian Hat. That huge pompom has been on my mind for over a year now. It is everything I need to satisfy my self-image this winter. My head just feels more complete with an overwhelmingly large puff of yarn resting atop it.

Rockaway Taco

Rockaway Taco, A Selby Film from the selby on Vimeo.

Just scavengered this from one of my favorite sites - The Selby. I am always inspired by people obviously doing what they love. Waking up to the sunrise and drinking coffee with the bees sounds like a dream. My only attempt at surfing last summer in Ecuador proved that I am not cut out to be a surfer bum. Maybe I should just focus on honing my sandcastle-building skills and then open up a guacamole stand outside NY.

Oh thank SLR heaven!

The SLR Sloop at the Photojojo Store!

Finally, a decent camera bag! When I first got my lovely Nikon I was not so hip on carrying around the less-sightly black nylon case that seemed to be the only option. I searched high and low and settled with a plain leather videocamera case. Trknfld must've heard my cries because these bags could not be any more perfect. Made from the fabric of a sailship? Yes please.

Find 'em here!

Cellos + Thao Yumminess

I love the simplicity of this video. And cellos make this best noise I have ever heard so Thao's collaboration with them is even better. I keep saying that one of these days I will teach myself to play the cello. I think the time to start is now.

On Hands

" I am not what I am. I am what I do with my hands." - Lousie Bourgeois

My hand obsession has been exponentially growing over the course of the past six months. I have been working on a lot of embroidery lately and the unconscious routine of the hand amazes me. Delicate, skilled, and active. These are some collections I've gathered to wet the palette and feed the soul. Words also cannot describe my heart swells for Lousie Bourgeois and her work.

Charlotte Ronson | Donald & Annabelle

I must say, I am pretty obsessed with all the Charlotte Ronson campaign videos. Such a perfect, extended depiction of an ideal love. Boy with crooked teeth who will sing me songs and help pick out my outfits, where you at?

You can watch each season here.

Disclaimer: These photos all belong to someone else, and while I do always try to give credit where credit is due, I have long lost the origins of some of these images. I tend to just drag images for my own inspiration on to babycakes'* desktop and sort accordingly. I have an ever-growing folder titled "Casa del Suenos". I wanted to share my dream abode with you, if you own these images or know of their birthplace, let me know so I can grant acknowledgments.

Here's to hoping and wishing.

* yes, my computer is named babycakes.
